Job Description:

The Sales Engineer (SE) supports sales productivity and deal flow by securing the “technical close” in complex solutions. The SE collaborates with sales, product, engineering, and technical support resources to ensure proposed deals include technical solutions that accurately address Sohonet’s customer needs, and are appropriately supported by key customer technical decision-makers. The SE is responsible for contributing to achievement of a defined profit and productivity quota for their assigned market/region. Reporting to the Head of Engineering (UK), the SE also reports on a dotted line to the VP of Sales (EMEA). This position will be assigned to support a geographical area and will entail travel.

Primary Functions
The primary functions for this role are;

To design and document reliable and cost effective solutions for customers. Lead technical discussions with prospective customers in alignment with account development plans Attend customer meetings and calls Provide technical demonstrations of Sohonet’s products to customers Assist with the planning, set-up and delivery of presentations and demonstrations at trade shows
Job Responsibilities
Works deals assigned to the sales team, prioritising effort based on maximising total impact on team productivity and profit, or as directed by the VP of Sales. Working with the sales, product and engineering teams to proactively determine and scope the nature of customer’s needs and define and recommend the products and solutions that optimise value for both the customer and Sohonet Articulate (in verbal, written and diagrammatic form) the value of Sohonet solutions to the customer and produce diagrams and detailed technical descriptions for proposal documents / RFP responses. Work with the engineering team to help define “standardised products” that require a minimum of additional Sales Engineering support to sell. Generate kit lists (BOM) for standard quotes and interact with engineering team for non-standard quotes. Secures input from all necessary solution stakeholders within the customer and adapts solutions, as necessary, to ensure appropriate support. Presents, demonstrates and explains Sohonet’s products, software and solution offering to both technical and non-technical stakeholders within the customer. Secures from customer technical commitments needed to ensure a deal’s “technical close”. Meets assigned targets for profitable sales growth in assigned product lines, market areas, channel, or teams supported. Provides coaching and professional development to sales colleagues in order to enhance their product knowledge, technical acumen, and technical sales skills. Opportunistically pursues additional business development opportunities within customer firms. Collaborates with sales to ensure these opportunities are effectively covered and advanced. Monitors customer support for technical solutions proposed throughout the sales process, and alerts the sales and account teams to potential risks of deal closure.
Skills & Education
Experience in the following areas will be highly desirable:- o IP / MPLS / Telecommunications networks.
o An understanding of BGP, OSPF, and MPLS in a service provider environment.
o Optical networking including CWDM/DWDM deployments ( To understand Wavelength services)
o QoS / traffic shaping implementations.( Understanding the difference between traffic shaping and policing)
o High performance networking and testing; RFC2544, iperf, TCP stack tuning.
o Debugging of networking issues; Layer 2, Layer 3, bandwidth. – Would be a Bonus !
o Enterprise level firewalls; provisioning and management ( Understand Customer security requirements and deployments)
